တရုတ်ပြည်သူ့သမ္မတနိုင်ငံ သာသနာရေးဝန်ကြီးက ကြီးမှူးကျင်းပသော ပဉ္စမအကြိမ် ကမ္ဘာ့ဗုဒ္ဓဘာသာထိပ်သီး ညီလာခံမှာ စကားပြောခွင့်ရတာ အလွန်ပဲ ဝမ်းမြောက်ဝမ်းသာဖြစ်ရပါတယ်။ ရှေးဦးစွာ ညီလာခံသို့ စုဝေးကြွရောက်လာကြသော ဗုဒ္ဓဘာသာခေါင်းဆောင်များ၊ ဂုဏ်သရေရှိလူကြီးမင်းများနှင့် ဓမ္မမိတ်ဆွေများအားလုံးကို ကိုယ်စိတ်နှစ်ပါး ကျန်းမာစေကြောင်း ထပ်ဆောင်းပြီး ဆုတောင်းမေတ္တာပို့သပါတယ်။

ဒီနေရာမှာ စုဝေးရောက်လာကြသော ကမ္ဘာ့ဗုဒ္ဓဘာသာ ခေါင်းဆောင်များသည် "စီးပွားရေး၊ လူမျိုးရေး၊ နိုင်ငံရေး၊ ဘာသာရေးတွေမှာ မတူညီသော အတွေးအခေါ်အယူအဆတွေကြောင့် နေ့စဉ် နေရာတိုင်းနီးပါးမှာ ပဋိပက္ခတွေ၊ ဖရိုဖရဲ ပရမ်းပတာ၊ ရက်စက်ကြမ်းကြုပ်စွာ သတ်ဖြတ်ခြင်းတို့ဖြင့် မငြိမ်းချမ်းတဲ့ ကမ္ဘာကြီး ငြိမ်းချမ်းအောင်၊ မတည်ငြိမ်တဲ့ ကမ္ဘာကြီး တည်ငြိမ်အောင်စွမ်းဆောင်ကြမယ်ဆိုတဲ့ မွန်မြတ်သော ရည်ရွယ်ချက်တွေနဲ့ ရောက်လာကြတယ်ဆိုတာ" ကျွန်ုပ် ယုံကြည်ပါတယ်။

ယနေ့ အလွန်ဆိုးဝါးသော အခြေအနေက ကမ္ဘာကြီး တည်ငြိမ် ငြိမ်းချမ်းဖို့အတွက် ဆောင်ရွက်နိုင်တဲ့ ဒီလို ညီလာခံမျိုးကြီးကို အကြိမ်အကြိမ်ပြုလုပ်ဖို့ ကျွန်ုပ်တို့ကို တောင်းဆိုနေကြပါတယ်။ ပို၍ဆိုးဝါးနေတာက မျက်မှောက်ခေတ်မှာ ကမ္ဘာကြီးဟာ ဘာသာရေးတိုင်းမှာ ဘာသာမဲ့တွေ များပြားလာခြင်းနှင့် စိုးရိမ်ဖွယ်ရာ ရင်ဆိုင်နေရပါတယ်။ အနာဂတ်ဗုဒ္ဓဘာသာဟာ တဖြည်းဖြည်း လျှော့ကျလာမှာကို ကြိုတင်မြင်တော်မူသောကြောင့် မြတ်ဗုဒ္ဓပရိနိဗ္ဗာန်စံပြီး နှစ် ၅၀၀၀ နောက်မှာ လူတွေဟာ မြတ်ဗုဒ္ဓရဲ့ဓမ္မကို သင်ယူခြင်းနှင့် လိုက်နာခြင်းတို့ကို စိတ်ဝင်စားမှုမှ လျှော့ကျလာမည်ကိုလည်း မြတ်ဗုဒ္ဓက ကြိုတင်ခန့်မှန်းပြီးဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

မြတ်ဗုဒ္ဓပွင့်တော်မူခဲ့သော ဘီစီ ခြောက်ရာစုခေတ်ဟာ ပါဠိလို ကလိယုဂခေတ်၊ ဆုတ်ကပ်ခေတ်၊ မကောင်းမှုတို့ဖြင့်ပြည့်သော ခေတ်ဖြစ်တယ်ဆိုတာ ဗုဒ္ဓရဲ့စာပေမှာ ကျွန်ုပ်တို့ သင်ယူခဲ့ရပါတယ်။ ပို၍ရှင်းလင်းစွာ မြင်တွေ့ရတာက မကောင်းမှုတို့ဖြင့်ပြည့်သော ဆုတ်ကပ်ခေတ် ဖြစ်နေဆဲမှာ အရင်ကထက် ပို၍ဆိုးဝါးလာနေခြင်းပဲ ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ လူအများစုဟာ ကိုယ်ကျင့်တရားတွေ ပျက်လာကြပြီး မကောင်းမှုပြုဖို့ တုံ့ဆိုင်းခြင်းမရှိဘဲ ပြုလုပ်နေကြပါပြီ။ မကောင်းတဲ့ ဆုတ်ကပ်ခေတ်ကို ခြေသုံးချောင်းကျိုး၍ ခြေတစ်ချောင်းတည်းဖြင့် ရပ်တည်နေသော ခြေလေးချောင်းသတ္တဝါနှင့် တူပါတယ်။ ဒါ ဘာဆိုလိုတာလဲ ဆိုတော့ ကမ္ဘာ့လူဦးရေ လေးပုံ သုံးပုံဟာ ကိုယ်ကျင့်တရား မွဲပြာကျနေကြပြီ၊ မြတ်ဗုဒ္ဓရဲ့ မွန်မြတ်တဲ့ အဆုံးအမတွေကိုလည်း မလိုက်နာကြတော့ဘူးလို့ ဆိုလိုတာပါ။ ကမ္ဘာ့ လူဦးရေ သုံးပုံ တစ်ပုံသာလျင် မကောင်းမှုကို ရှောင်ရှားကြဖို့ သတိတရားရှိနေကြပါတယ်။

ယနေ့ ကမ္ဘာမှာ သိပ္ပံနှင့် နည်းပညာရပ်တွေဟာ အရှိန်အဟုန်နဲ့ တိုးတက်လာနေတဲ့ အချိန် လူငယ် အတော်များများဟာ သူတို့ရဲ့ ယုံကြည်မှုတွေကို စွန့်လွတ်နေကြပါတယ်။ တချို့သောသူတွေက သိပ္ပံနှင့် နည်းပညာရပ်တွေဟာ ကမ္ဘာကြီးရဲ့ လိုအပ်ချက်နှင့် စည်းစိမ်တွေကို ဖြည့်ဆည်းပေးနိုင်မယ်လို့ တစ်ဖက်သတ် လက်ခံထားကြပါတယ်။ ဒီအကြောင်းတရားတွေဟာ ကမ္ဘာကြီးရဲ့ နေရာတိုင်းမှာ တစ်နေ့ထက်တစ်နေ့ ဘာသာမဲ့တွေ များပြားလာခြင်းရဲ့ အကြောင်းဖြစ်တယ်လို့ ကျွန်ုပ်ယုံကြည်မိပါတယ်။

ကျွန်ုပ် လေးလေးနက်နက် သတိထားမိတာက အင်္ဂလန်နိုင်ငံမှာ ဘာသာမဲ့ အရေအတွက်ဟာ ၃၅ ရာခိုင်းနှုန်းရှိတယ်ဆိုတာပါပဲ။ ဒါ့ပြင် ယနေ့ခေတ် ဂျပန်နိုင်ငံမှာ ၃၁ ရာခိုင်နှုန်းနှင့် အမေရိကန်ပြည်ထောင်စုမှာ ၃၃ ရာခိုင်းနှုန်းသော လူတွေဟာ ဘာသာမဲ့တွေ ဖြစ်ကြပါတယ်။ အလားတူ ဖြစ်စဉ်မှာလည်း ကမ္ဘာ့အဓိကဘာသာကြီး ၅ ခုတို့၏ ပေါက်ဖွားရာနေရာတွေမှာ ဘာသာမဲ့တွေဟာ များပြာလာတာကို ဆိုးရိမ်ဖွယ်ရာ တွေ့မြင်ရပါတယ်။ အိုင်တီ (နည်းပညာခေတ်)မှာ ယုံကြည်မှု သီးခြားစီရှိကြတဲ့ သူတို့တစ်တွေဟာ သူတို့ယုံကြည်ရာ ဘာသာတရားအသီးသီးကို စိတ်ဝင်စားမှု နည်းသထက် နည်းလာကြခြင်း၊ သူတို့ဘာသာတရားရဲ့ အကျင့်သီလတွေကို လိုက်နာခြင်း၊ မကောင်းမှုတွေကို မကျူးလွန်မိအောင် စိတ်ကို ထိန်းခြင်း ဆိုတာတွေ နည်းလာနေကြသည်ကို ဝမ်းနည်းစွာ မြင်တွေ့နေရပါတယ်။ ခေတ်မီဖွံ့ဖြိုးတိုးတက်နေတဲ့ သိပ္ပံနှင့်နည်းပညာတွေဟာ ကမ္ဘာကြီးနှင့် လူသားတွေအတွက် အကျိုးများကောင်း များပေမဲ့ အကယ်၍ ထိုနည်းပညာတွေကို လွဲမှားစွာ အသုံးပြုနေကြမယ်ဆိုရင် ကမ္ဘာကြီးရဲ့ ငြိမ်းချမ်းရေးနဲ့ တည်ငြိမ်ရေးကို ခြိမ်းခြောက်နေမှာ ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

ကမ္ဘာကြီးရဲ့ လက်တလော အခြေအနေဟာ ဘာသာမဲ့ကမ္ဘာဆီသို့ ဦးတည်နေတယ်ဆိုတာ ဘာသာရေးခေါင်းဆောင်များ အလေးအနက် သတိထားရမည့် ကိစ္စဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ ကမ္ဘာ့ငြိမ်းချမ်းရေးနှင့် တည်ငြိမ်ရေးကို အကြီးမားဆုံး ခြိမ်းခြောက်နေတဲ့ အခြေအနေသို့ ရောက်နေတာ အလွန်စိုးရိမ်စရာ ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

ယနေ့ ကမ္ဘာမှာရှိကြတဲ့ ဘာသာရေးအားလုံးမှာ အသီးအသီး သူတို့အား ယုံကြည်သူတွေကို မကောင်းသော အကုသိုလ်စိတ်တွေကို ထိန်းဖို့၊ ယဉ်ကျေးသိမ်မွေ့ဖို့ ဟောပြော ဆုံးမနေကြပါတယ်ဆိုတာ ကျွန်ုပ်တို့ ယုံကြည်ပါတယ်။ ယနေ့ လူငယ်တွေဟာ ဘာသာတရားရဲ့ အရေးပါတဲ့သူတွေဖြစ်လို့ ကျွန်ုပ်တို့ ဗုဒ္ဓဘာသာခေါင်းဆောင်တွေက ကိုယ့်အပိုင်းကနေ ဘာသာတရားဟာ ကမ္ဘာကြီးရဲ့ ငြိမ်းချမ်းရေးနှင့် တည်ငြိမ်ရေး ခိုင်မာသောမှတ်တိုင်ဖြစ်တဲ့ လူတိုင်းကိုယ်စီ ငြိမ်းချမ်းသောစိတ် ဖြစ်ဖို့ အဓိကကျတယ်ဆိုတာကို လူငယ်တွေ လက်ခံလာအောင် ကြိုစားသင့်ပါတယ်။

ကမ္ဘာကြီးရဲ့ နေရာတိုင်းမှာ မြတ်ဗုဒ္ဓရဲ့ ဓမ္မအနှစ်တွေဖြင့် ကမ္ဘာကြီး ငြိမ်းချမ်းဖို့ ကျွန်ုပ်တို့ ကြိုးစားကြပါစို့။

An Earnest Appeal to the World Buddhist Leaders
delivered by Most Venerable Sitagu Sayadaw Dr. Nyanissara at the 5th Buddhist Summit

Your Venerable Excellencies Distinguished guests Friends in the Dhamma, Good morning!
It is indeed a great privilege for me to speak at the 5th World Buddhist Summit organized by the Religious Affairs Ministry of the People's Republic of China. First, I extend my warmest greetings to all Buddhist leaders, high dignitaries and friends in the Dhamma present here at this august gathering and wish you all physical and mental wellbeing.

I am confident that Buddhist leaders across the world are gathered here with the unique noble aspiration to better promote world peace and stability, which is declining day by day with conflicts, chaos and brutal killings almost everywhere due to opposing ideologies in economic, racial, political and religious systems. This current shocking situation is demanding us to organize frequent meetings of this kind, which enable us to find better solution to our endeavours for world peace and stability.

More shockingly, the world today is facing with an alarming issue of the increase of atheists almost in every religion. Having foreseen the decline of Buddhism in the future, Buddha accurately predicted that people would show less interest to learn and practise his teachings after 5,000 years of his noble demise.

We have also learnt in the Buddhist Scripture that 6th century B.C, the period in which the Buddha appeared, was said to be "Kaliyuga age" in Pali language, which means "the age of all evils". It is clearly seen that this evil age is still going on, and is much too worse than before. The majority of people are seen immoral, without hesitating to do evils. This evil age can be compared to a four-legged creature standing on one foot only, with its other three legs broken. This literally means that the three- fourths of the world people is morally bankrupt, not willing to follow the noble teachings of their respective teachings, while only one-third is taking heed to avoid doing evils.

In today's world when science and technology have speedily boomed and boosted, quite a number of youths are seen trying to escape from their respective faiths. Some of them even one-sidedly regard that only science and technology could fulfill the needs and welfare of the world. I believe this is the root cause of increase in the number of atheists day by day in every part of the world.

I have noted with grave concern that the number of atheists in England accounts for 35 percent, whereas those in Japan number 31 percent, and those in America total 33 percent. More alarmingly, the same phenomenon is seen with a certain large number of atheists even in the birthplaces of the world's five major religions. In this IT age, it is tragic to see that a certain number of followers of different faiths have become less and less interested in the teachings of their respective religions, resulting in failure to observe religious disciplines that control their mind not to commit any evil. Even though the modern and updated techniques of science are beneficial to the world and its people, they, if misused, bring evil consequences which threaten peace and stability of the entire world.

It is a matter of grave concern for all religious leaders that the current situation is leading towards the world of atheism in the years to come. It is the most alarming issue which poses the biggest threat to world peace and stability.

We believe that all religions in the world have their own respective means to teach their followers to control their evil mind and make it tame and serene. We the Buddhist leaders, on our part, should strive to convince the youths of today of the important role of religions that is key to individual peace of mind, which is a stepping stone to world peace and stability.

- Let's make the world peaceful by disseminating the essence of the Buddha's Dhamma to every corner of the world.
